Weekend Analysis

Formula Renault 3.5
Race one result: Bianchi 1st (25points).
Race two result: Bianchi 12th.

Sahara Force India reserve driver, Jules Bianchi, started on pole for race one and a dominating performance saw him take fastest lap & the race win by 9.725s! It's his first win of the season and it puts him right back in the title hunt.

For the second race Jules qualified in 3rd position. A risky strategy of being the first driver onto slick tyres in the damp (but drying) conditions did not pay off as he took a detour into the gravel trap. He did manage to get going again, but could only manage 12th place.

The first seven races of the season have produced six different winners and so the championship is very close:

Drivers' Championship (1st -7th):
1) Sam Bird (86 pts)
2) Robin Frijns (86)
3) Nick Yelloly (76)
4) Marco Sørensen (71)
5) Jules Bianchi (61)
6) Kevin Magnussen (57)
7) Nico Müller (50)

Of the seven races so far, Jules has had four fastest laps; clearly he's not lacking speed. The Frenchman just seems to have alot of bad luck during at least one race of a weekend. The next weekend is at the Moscow Raceway, Russia on the 14th & 15th July. The target for Jules there will be to score points in both races, something he hasn't managed all season.

Else
where ...
Much to our surprise, Aditya Patel took part in the JK Racing Asia Series this weekend as a guest driver. It was the first time the series has ventured into Europe, racing at Circuit Paul Ricard, France.

Guest drivers are ineligible for points, but the Indian driver gave a solid performance, finishing 8th in race one and 6th in race two. This makes him the best guest driver of the season. Fellow Indians, Raj Bharath and Vishnu Prasad also took part earlier in the season - as guests. Unfortunately there is no Indian regularly in the series in 2012.

This is how the guest drivers have got on:
